"Tomoka Loop"
30" x 40"
Plein Air Oil on Canvas

This 30" x 40" plein air was quite a challenge to create. I had been dying to paint along the loop road near Tomoka State Park in Ormond and this was my favorite scene. Unfortunately, the road is narrow and winding and there is almost nowhere safe to pull over and paint, particularly when you have a large canvas. I did manage though. What I loved and tried to capture about this scene: The impending storm marching overhead, the gentle curve of the creek leading you into through the marsh and the distant trees marching off into forever, the gorgeous colors and textures of the foliage weaving through the marsh and the creek reflecting the foreground in the calmer waters in the bend. I get a deep sense of calm whenever I look at this painting, even though painting it was a challange.
