"Summer Flood" by Brenda Hofreiter

This painting was created "en plein air" at Mullet Lake in Sanford, Florida. Mullet Lake is a widening along the St. Johns River and as a public park, it is a popular place to put in your boat, fish or birdwatch. It is one of my favorite painting spots along the St. Johns . This painting was done after the summer rains had produced marked flooding along the St. Johns River. The park was closed due to the high water, but I snuck in with my easel and captured the perfect reflection of the overhanging oak in the shallow floodwaters. I love the old barn in the distance that reminds me of an earlier time. The peace and solitude in the closed park made this a joy to paint!
