"Shore Drive View" by artist Brenda Hofreiter

This painting was created at a "paint out" at Crescent Beach, FL in October. It has been an annual event for several years and I have discovered this wonderful place near St. Augustine called Shore Drive. It meanders
along the marsh near US 1 and offers wonderful wild views of the area. I spent most of the last
paint out sitting somewhere along this drive and blissfully painting.

This one is near the public boat launch. It is late afternoon, and I had decided to undertake an ambitious
18" x 24" size canvas for this view. Because of the time constraints for paint outs, I usually stick to smaller sizes that can be completed quickly. My only wish was that I had an even LARGER canvas for this view. I was captivated by the lighting, colors and composition of this scene. The white sand path leads into the picture plane through the wonderful brilliance of the salt pan foliage. The peaceful and inviting dock points up to the distant palms lit with afternoon light. The color shifts to blue as the shoreline trees recede into the distance. There are hints of buildings and signs along the way, and the clouds drift peacefully back along the top of the picture plane. I can almost feel the warmth of the afternoon sun and the sounds of the incoming tidal change. I remember fondly the time spent painting this one, even with the time constraints to get it done in time for the gala and sale! Hope you like it too.
