"Shore Drive Palms" by plein air artist, Brenda Hofreiter

This painting was completed on location during a paintout at Crescent Beach, FL. I had searched high and low for a great painting location and found this view of the Matanzas River along Shore Drive in St. Augustine, FL. I completed two paintings there on the last day of the paintout. This was my afternoon light painting.
I picked this view because I was captivated by the shadow patterns and the view of the river through the palm trunks. Anyway, you know how much I love to paint palms! I love the way you can see the bit of white beach sand along the distant shore. This was a challenge to paint, not only because of the changing light patterns, but also the changing water levels. I was amazed at the tidal flow that the river had. It seemed to be constantly changing!
