"Sapelo Sunset" by artist Brenda Hofreiter

This painting was based on several of the images I brought back with me from Sapelo Island during my artist's residency there. The conclusion of every painting day was a trip to the docks behind my cabin to stand and watch the glorious sunsets over the marsh. It took a while to get to it, but I finally finished my self-promise to do a sunset painting based on these experiences. This was completed largely from memory since my photographic images weren't up to snuff and most of the time I forgot to even snap a picture! It brings back such wonderful memories of the trip. This is my favorite time of day, especially after a good day of painting. Just remembering standing on the dock hearing the water slap against the it and watching the lights last hurrah before the gathering dark gives me such contentment.
