This original plein air oil painting was created on location at Lake Woodruff Wildlife Preserve just outside of Deland, FL. It is mid winter and the grasses have almost completely lost their summer green. There is still a bit of shallow water remaining from the summer rain, but it is evaporating in the dry winter air and the dry season mud flats are beginning to appear. I have a companion painting entitled "Approaching Winter " that shows a different view of this area in early winter when the grasses are still holding on to their green and the summer rainwater is more plentiful.

Here's a picture of me painting "Receeding Water" at Lake Woodruff. It was taken and later emailed to me by an interested hiker. Wasn't that nice of him?
