This is a painting of the overlook at Poinsett State Park. It is amazing to think that this view was created by an ancient sand dune! High up a winding road there is a picnic area with several covered picnic pavilions. This is the view from one of them. I was quite cozy painting undisturbed under the sheltering roof of the breezy pavilion. You can see the entrance to a trail head that abruptly drops into the climb down hill. It was morning when I painted this. The angled sun created a shadow from the pine like an arrow pointing toward the opening in the wooden rail fence. The sun lit up bits of the treetops as the land drops away. The view over the surrounding Charleston countryside seems to go on unbroken into the distance.
