"Palms and Wildflowers along the Road"

Plein Air Oil on Canvas

This painting was created at Lake Woodruff Wildlife Refuge just outside Deland, FL. It is one of my favorite painting locations. It's peaceful and wide open spaces just say "Florida" to me. It is late spring and the wildflowers are blooming. The meadow grasses still have some of their winter coloring. I love trying to capture in oil the seasonal overlaps and their diverse colors. The foreground twin palms show evidence of past controlled burns on their blackened trunks.
I had just gotten my bike outfitted for painting which allowed me to travel deeper into the preserve. I documented my setup below so you can see how this was created.
Enjoy!
