This painting was created on location at Mullet Lake along the banks of the St. Johns River.  The water from summer is receding leaving mud along the banks.
The Florida Red Maples' red leaves are showing in the background against the distant trees.  They make a nice contrast to the winter grasses.  You can see the water weaving in and out of the scene.  The graceful oak tree overhangs the bank; it's moss dripping towards the water.  The tall palm is silhouetted against the afternoon clouds.  I love reflections in the water of the clouds and grasses. The water was receding fast and soon only sand would be left behind.  I had to work quickly.
