This painting was done on location at Blackpoint Wildlife Drive near Merrit Island, Florida. It is a dirt road a few miles long that winds through the tidal marshes of Canaveral National Seashore. During the winter months it is one of the best places to bird watch. You can see flocks of migrating birds like Roseate Spoonbills, White Pelicans and every kind of duck you can imagine.
The water level varies by season and this painting shows a lower water level. I was captured by the partial reflections in the calm of the shallow water, the amazing colors in the mud flats, and the way the mangroves dot the shallow water. To me they look for all the world like little Bonzai trees!
