This painting was created on location in downtown Orlando around Lake Eola.  I have always wanted to paint the fountain and this is the first time I got around to it.  The water is a wonderful centerpiece on Lake Eola and offers a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of the growing city.  The water height of the fountain changes and it is beautifully lit up at night.  There are wonderful walkways all around the lake and it is a great place for a stroll with the family.

I chose this view because I wanted to frame the fountain with the wonderful morning light bouncing off the beautiful old palm trees.  I had fun painting their delicate fronds and sunlit trunks.  You can see the buildings of downtown peaking through their branches in the background.  I like to surround and soften the edges of architecture with nature and love the contrast that creates.  The glimmering reflections of the fountain in the water are always a draw and challenge for me to paint.  I don't know if you can see it at first glance, but there is a pair of white ibis resting in the shade of the palms along the edge of the water.  Thank goodness they seemed content to sit while I got them into the painting!

This painting was one of 3 of my paintings of downtown Orlando that was juried into an exhibition in January 2006 by Orlando Museum of Art’s First Thursdays.  The three paintings were also chosen for publication in Orlando Magazine's January, 2006 issue in an article entitled “Paint the Town" which featured the work of 20 Orlando artists.
