These paintings were created during my stay as Artist in Residence at Mike Roess Goldhead Branch State Park in Florida. I was attempting to get the State of Florida to start an Artist-In-Residence Program similar to other state and national programs. My correspondence came across the desk of a remarkably forward-thinking Park Services Specialist, Renee' M. Rau. Although she was not able to create a state-wide program, when she was hired on as Assistant Park Manager, she did invite me to Goldhead as their very first Artist-In-Residence! Goldhead Branch State Park was developed during the 1930's by the Civilians Conservation Corps and is one of Florida's oldest State Parks. It sits high up in the rolling sandhills of the Florida Ridge. One of it's attractions is the branch that is formed in a ravine full of springs. It is a lovely park and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. You can read more about the park and it's history here: http://www.floridastateparks.org/goldhead/default.cfm.
