I was walking through Harry P. Leu Gardens here in Orlando, FL looking for a good
painting subject when I spotted these Firecracker bushes. I couldn't resist painting their bright red flowers. It's not often that I can dip my brush into pure red. It is such a joy to paint with, especially surrounded with the complementary greens. I loved the long morning shadows crossing the path and the lamp posts peeking through the brush. I had to hurry because the firecrackers were already shedding their pedals and soon they would die back in the summer heat. Do you think that they call them firecrackers because they bloom in time for the 4th of July?
