This painting was created on location at Mullet Lake, along the banks of the St. Johns River. It is a popular place to boat, fish and camp and one of my favorite places to paint. It is early winter and you can still see the turning leaves of the Florida Red Maples in the distance. The water level in the St. Johns is low, exposing small islands of vegetation in the river's shallows. It is early afternoon, but the bright winter sun has created long shadows that etch the perfect images of palms upon the road. The graceful oak drips Spanish Moss and casts it's shadows around the bend. I can still feel the welcome warmth of the sun on my back as I paint this in the chill of winter.
