"Clermont Orange Groves"

Plein Air Oil on Canvas

This painting was created in Clermont, FL along the Florida ridge.  This regon has
historically been dominated by orange groves, but after the freezes in the 1980's the orange groves were wiped out and replaced by residential development.
I wanted to document whatever groves remained and I found this one.  It is directly across from Lake Louisa State Park and the ridge offered me a breathtaking view.  The road you see in the center of the picture is US 27 which was one of the main roads through this region before the Interstate.

I was inspired by this endless vista, the neat undulating rows of the orange grove, the red clay dirt roads and the lowland ponds.  It is the way I remember Central Florida.  I can almost smell the orange blossoms waifting in through the open car windows when I look at this painting.  Hope you enjoy it!
