"Burnt Palm" by plein air artist, Brenda Hofreiter

I created this painting "en plein air" at Lake Woodruff Wilderness Preserve just outside of Deland, FL. Since it is a managed Preserve, they do controlled burns periodically. This palm tree shows evidence of an old burn on it's charred trunk. You can see the wildlife and bird observation tower in the background. There are dirt access roads along the raised berms, and you can walk for miles in the park and see all kinds of wildlife. This painting was created in the early spring and the grasses have not yet greened out for summer and the water has not yet returned with the summer rains.
