Plein Air Oil on Canvas

I created this painting "en plein air" in Orlando Wetland Park near Ft. Christmas, FL.
It is a created wetland area and there are raised berms with roads so that you can walk in the park. This is one of the first of my larger-format plein air paintings and I fell in love with the larger size and now do them regularly. This one shows the dirt road curving along the edges of the wetlands. In the distance you can see palms growing in all directions. It reminds me of old Florida, and I always feel like I have gone back in time when I visit and paint there. I usually see only a few visitors and am alone with the sounds of the hawks and the alligators in the ponds when I paint. In the distance you can see the purples of the flooded out palms and the rising clouds building toward the afternoon rains.
