This painting is of the Roseate Spoonbills at Blackpoint Wildlife Drive in Titusville, FL. It is a dirt road that winds through managed waterways of the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. During the winter months, hundreds of different migratory birds come here to feed. You can see professional and amateur photographers all along the road hoping to get the perfect picture of these magnificent birds. I think I captured them very well..... Don't you?
I loved the curve of the water's edge and the wonderful cloud reflections in the shallow water. There is little wind and the reflections are just slightly ruffled. The dark specks it the middle distance are coots which I affectionately refer to as "duck butts" since they feed by sticking their heads underwater with their tails in the air. You can see forever in this flat open area. I'm a sucker for this place. I'm glad I finally got a good painting of it.
