This painting was created "en plein air" at Mullet Lake in Seminole County. It is one of my favorite painting spots along the St. Johns River. Every summer with the advent of the summer rains, the park floods as the banks of the St. Johns River rise. This is what it looks like in mid-season before the river floods. There are just a few pools of water left over from the recent rain that is trapped in the sandy soil. This is the camping area of the park and it has acres of land to hike in when the water is low and in high water, it is inaccessible. I love the transitional time between seasons. The greens of summer have arrived, but the floods are yet to come. The clouds are building toward a typical afternoon shower. It depicts nature as always, in flux.
