This original plein air oil painting was created on location at Lake Woodruff Wildlife Preserve just outside of Deland, FL.  It was early winter and the grasses were just beginning to lose their summer green.  There was shallow water still remaining from the summer rains reflecting the palms and grasses.  I always look forward to capturing the transition of changing colors in the landscape as the seasons ebb and flow one into another.  I love the way this composition shows off the seasonal transition of color and the depth and space of the preserve's vista.  I have a companion painting entitled "Receding Water" that shows a different view of this area as the water evaporates in the dry winter air leaving mud flats.
